Materials

- Sit in a circle and explain to the students that they're going to discover the rhythm of their names
- Go around in a circle and clap the syllables in one student's name at a time
- After you spoken and clapped the rhythm of a name, have the students repeat after you
- When students are able to clap the syllables of their names, add foot stomping and stomp on each syllable. Can also progress to jumping, leaping or hopping
- When students have mastered names, clap/stomp/jump/leap/hop out the syllables of additional words (could be any words you are studying- i.e. science vocabulary)
- Clap out the syllables of lines from nursery rhymes, poems, or favourite stories
