Travel Your Name - Adapted from Alberta Education. (2006). Daily physical activity: A handbook for grades 1-9 schools. Edmonton, AB: Learning and Teaching Resources Branch.
Materials
- Alphabet cards
- Music (optional)
- Pylon
- Create a set of alphabet cards. On the bottom of the laminated letter, write a type of locomotor movement (skipping, hopping or jogging) or specify a fitness skill to practice (10 wall stretches, 10 wall sits). Tape alphabet cards to the walls around the gym.
- Play music and have the students skip in a straight pathway to the first letter of their name.
- Have them touch the letter and then travel to the next letter using the specified movement pattern. They continue until the music stops or they have spelled their name. For double letter, e.g. IsabeLLa, they must travel to the pylon in the middle of the gym and do the locomotor movement specified there and then head back to the letter.
- Have the students spell various words or use the events in a story and have students travel to them in the order in which they happened
