Skywriting-Adapted from Pica, Rae. (2007). Moving and learning through curriculum. Clifton Park, NY: Delmar Cengage Learning.
Materials
- The alphabet (posted where students can see it)
- Ask the students to imagine the air in front of them is a giant chalkboard and they've got a big piece of chalk in their hands
- Ask them to choose a letter from the alphabet and to "write" it on the "chalkboard"
- Continue with other letters. Can they write short words, or their name?
- Encourage the students to use other body parts to "write" in the air (i.e. elbows, head, knees, bum)
- Ask the students to imagine that the chalk is in their toes and the floor is a chalkboard. Can they write with their toes?
- Have one student at a time write a letter. Ask the rest of the class to guess the letter. This could also be done in small groups.
