Pip, Squeak and Wilbur Spelling- Adapted from Ever Active Schools. (2014). Daily Physical Activity Greatest Hits.
Materials
- A large space (i.e. gym)
- 60 + letter beanbags, cards or scrabble pieces
- Groups of 3 students sit down one behind the other.
- The entire class forms a wheel, and each group is a "spoke" of the wheel. The student in the middle of the group of 3 is called Squeak. The student in front of Squeak is Pip and Wilbur is directly behind Squeak.
- Place the letter cards in the centre of the circle
- The teacher calls out a name (i.e. Wilbur) and all the Wilburs from each group have to stand up and run clockwise around the outside of the circle. Meanwhile, Pip and Squeak stand facing each other and extend their arms to create a bridge.
- Wilbur runs from the outside of the circle, and goes under the bridge and retrieves one letter cards and sits back down with the group.
- Continue until all of the letters are gone from the centre circle
- Challenge each group to create as many words as possible with the letters they have collected
- Change the locomotor pattern from running to skipping, galloping, hopping or crab walking
