- Whiteboard or flashcards with letters and vocabulary words
- Starting with the letter "A," call out each letter of the alphabet and a corresponding word or phrase that begins with that letter.
- After identifying a word or phrase, ask the students to perform and action that incorporates this word or phrase. (For example, call out or hold up a letter "A," saying the word apple and then ask the students to pretend they are picking an apple high up in a tree. "L" could be for ladder and the students pretend to climb a ladder. See below for more examples.
- After each movement, review the letter, the word and the letter sound and then ask students to call out the letter that comes next.
- Continue through the whole alphabet, selecting certain letters each day from different points in the alphabet.
- At the end of the activity, have the students summarize their learning by drawing pictures or writing some of the words and their associated action words.
- Have the students create a list of actions.
